The city of Covington had a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the state Route 516 Improvement Project on July 13.

Attending the event were Mayor Margaret Harto, Councilwoman Marlla Mhoon, City Manager Derek Matheson, as well as representatives from the Washington State Department of Transportation and Covington Water District.

The project involved a stretch of state Route 516 from Southeast Wax Road to the bridge spanning over Jenkins Creek. Improvements included additional lanes, underground utilities and a road median.

“To wake up to this – I don’t think we can cap that,” said Harto. “It is the first step toward instead of westward ho, it’s eastward ho.”
