The Covington City Council unanimously appointed Jennifer Harjehausen April 9 to fill council position No. 2.
Following the unexpected death of council member Paul Selland, the council needed to fill the vacancy.
At the March 12 council meeting, the council agreed to either choose a new member during the April 9 meeting based solely on applications, or hold interviews at a later date.
During the April 9 meeting, council member Margaret Harto moved to suspend the interview process.
Harto then moved to appoint Harjehausen to fill the vacancy.
“The council met in executive session (Tuesday and) reviewed the qualifications for five applicants to fill the vacancy in position No. 2 and it is my privilege and honor to place Jennifer’s name to fill that position. Jennifer Harjehausen has been a candidate prior to this evening for a position on our council. She has served this community in a variety of capacities, both on behalf of the city as well as positions of community representation in the school district,” Harto said.
Marlla Mhoon seconded Harto’s motion.
The Reporter is speaking with Harjehausen Wednesday afternoon. A more in depth story will run in the April 19 edition.
