While the jobless rate in King County remained low by comparison, statewide unemployment in Washington last month rose to national levels, according to the state’s Employment Security Department.
Unemployment for all of Washington increased to 6 percent in August, up from July’s 5.6 percent, with an estimated 200,334 people out of work and seeking jobs.
King County was at 4.4 percent.
The U.S. rate was 6.1 percent.
“While our state isn’t immune from the nation’s economic troubles, we continue to do better than most of the country,” said Employment Security Commissioner Karen Lee.
