Larry Phillips, a Metropolitan King County Councilman, plans to formally launch his campaign for County Executive during a campaign event and press conference this morning in Seattle.

Phillips said his candidacy will emphasize county government’s response to the current economic conditions.

“Times are tough right now, and the public deserves a county government that is more relevant, inclusive, cost-effective and productive,” said Phillips, a council member since 1991.

Six months ago, Phillips formed an exploratory committee to measure support for a possible campaign for the county’s top elected office. Now that he’s in the race in this fall’s election, Phillips said, he plans to visit all areas of the county to learn from the public what they want for their communities.

The executive oversees county agencies and helps set budget priorities for county services.
