The Kent Area PTSA Council held its annual awards dinner at the Kent Event Center on May 11.
Award winners from Kent School District schools were honored and awards were presented to volunteers, educators, advocates and community members.
More than 220 guests were in attendance and more than $7,500 was raised through auctions to fund scholarships for KSD seniors, Janine Weber, senior vice president of the council, wrote in an email.
A donation was made by the council to the Washington State PTA scholarship fund in the name of each winner, she wrote.
The award winners are listed below:
• Lisa Pevey from Jenkins Creek Elementary and Cedar Heights Middle School received the Golden Acorn for her service to all children and youth
• Dee Booth Klem from Communities in Schools Kent received the Outstanding Advocate award for continued and dedicated service
• Kentridge Robotics Clue was honored with Outstanding Student Advocate for its commitment to improving education for all students
• Mark Moehring and the Wear a Big Smile Foundation received the Spirit of the Community award
• Michael Carney, 6th grade teacher at Scenic Hill Elementary, was named Outstanding Educator for going beyond normal expectations of the job
• Liliana Philipps from Jenkins Creek Elementary and Cedar Heights Middle School received an award for Outstanding Service
