Cooling centers open to the public

The city manager of Maple Valley, Laura Philpot announced today, Aug. 2, that a cooling station will be open today until Friday to ensure Maple Valley residents have a safe place to stay cool during the heat wave, according to a press release by the city.

Residents, especially senior citizens, are strongly advised to take advantage of this cooling station, if needed.

Unfortunately, no pets will be permitted and no refreshments will be provided, the release said. Also, bring your own water.

The location of the cooling station is Lake Wilderness Lodge (Room locations may vary).

According to a press release by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, there will be other cooling stations in the Kent area as well.

These include the Covington Library, Kent Library, Valley View Library, Kent Commons Community Center, Seatac Community Center and the Kent Senior Center.

These cooling centers will be available during each building’s normal business hours.
