Cooking oil in pan starts kitchen fire | Kent Fire Department

At 7:15 Monday, June 28, a smoke detector alerted a Kent family to a smoking pan of oil on the stove in the kitchen. The residents found the smoking pan and began fanning the smoke when the pan caught fire. The residents immediately called 911 and then were able to extinguish the fire on the stove with a portable fire extinguisher.

The residents found the smoking pan and began fanning the smoke when the pan caught fire. The residents immediately called 911 and then were able to extinguish the fire on the stove with a portable fire extinguisher.

Kent Fire Department emergency units responded to the fire at the 23500 block of 58th Avenue South in Kent and found the fire on the stove was out but had extended into the kitchen cabinets.

Fire personnel checked the cabinets and extinguished the remainder of fire hidden in the cabinets. Due to the amount of smoke in the apartment the family of three will receive temporary emergency housing through the Red Cross. No injuries to the residents or Firefighters.

• Fire safety tip: To extinguish a fire in a pan of oil on the stove, simply put a lid on it.
