Community invited to learn about technology

The Tahoma School District invites community members to learn about technology in the classroom.

This session’s Engage Tahoma topic is Classroom Technology.

Two sessions will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 30 and May 20 at the Central Services Center.

The format calls for detailed information at the first session and group discussion with district staff and leaders a the second session.

Volunteers needed

The Maple Valley Food Bank is looking for volunteers on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The food bank is in search of volunteers from 7:45 to 11 a.m. as a driver or driver helper for Grocery Rescue as well as volunteers from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the warehouse.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older and able to lift 40 pounds.

Local team wins state championship

Out of more than 400 teams competing, Maple Valley fourth graders qualified two teams — Tahoma Hoops and Raincity Hoops — to compete at the Washington State Basketball Championship in Spokane.

Raincity Hoops won the state championship for the fourth grade gold bracket. The team went 4-0 that weekend.

Local projects awarded grants

Community projects in the greater Maple Valley area were awarded a grant from King County’s Community Service Area program.

A total of $10,750 has been awarded to area projects including: the Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council (received three grants), the Lake Desire Community Club (received two grants) and the 212th Ave. SE Homeowners.
