Community dinner Sunday
The Black Diamond-Maple Valley Kiwanis Club and the Black Diamond Elementary PTA are hosting the 10th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Black Diamond Elementary School.
Community members are welcome to come by and enjoy a free, home cooked Thanksgiving dinner.
Live music will be provided by Steve Israel and kids crafts will be provided by Black Diamond Arts Alliance.
Upcoming art show
The Maple Valley Creative Art Council’s next art show will feature artist Emily Mallory. The show will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
Mallory is a paper artist and crafter located in Maple Valley.
County parks visitors encouraged to complete survey
The King County Parks department is looking for the opinion of visitors to see what is great about local parks, trails and natural areas but also to gain feedback on ways to improve them.
Now through Dec. 7 the public is welcome to answer the survey, kingcounty.gov/kcparks-survey.
Special meeting regarding mine cleanup
The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council is hosting a special meeting from 7 to 9:30 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 16 at Maple Valley Fire Station No. 81.
The Washington State Department of Ecology will discuss the draft agreement to cleanup the Reserve Silica Mine Site.
Golf season ends with celebration
The Lake Wilderness Ladies Golf Club ended its eight month season with a celebration in early November.
Janice Train was named Most Improved Golfer for 2018 — improving her handicap by three points this season.

KCLS launches new Podcast
The King County Library System announced Nov. 7 the launch of its new Podcast, “The Desk Set.”
The Podcast will be co-hosted by KCLS librarians Emily Calkins and Britta Barrett. The Podcast will feature author interviews, book reviews, literary conversations and is set to encourage listeners to expand their reading horizons, a release stated.
The podcast can be downloaded from iTunes, Google, Spotify and Stitcher. Listeners can visit kcls.org/deskset for show notes and lists of books featured in each episode.
