The city of Covington has a new blog, Covington Pulse.
City Manager Regan Bolli said the city’s goal with the new medium is to start a dialogue with residents.
“I wanted to start it as one more way to reach out to residents in Covington but in a little different way than our other social media and our website,” he said in a phone interview.
He said the primary difference between the new blog and the current website is that it’s a two-way communication tool instead of one-way.
Bolli will be the author of the blog posts, which will be primarily focused on discussing things going on with the city.
One of the most recent posts published June 8, which launched at the end of May, was regarding Proposition 1.
During the April special election, Covington’s Proposition No. 1 failed when voters said no to a .002 percent sales tax increase for the city to pay for road improvements.
Bolli asked in the post what Covington residents are willing to pay for.
“So, what are Covington residents willing to pay for?” he wrote. “It’s a no to street improvements, but what about parks, a civic center plaza, trails, a rec center, a new city hall, additional police officers, or nothing? Let us know.”
The discussion on the blog will be a little more candid than the city’s other communication styles, something Bolli said he hopes will aid in having a “better-informed citizenry.”
