Two young children playing with a lighter in the family garage caused approximately $100,000 in damage to a single family home on the 26100 of 121st Ave SE on Kent’s Easthill Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Kent’s firefighters were quickly able to contain the fire and thus were able to limit the majority of the damage to the garage. The remainder of the home had extensive smoke damage but no flame damage.
The residents all escaped without injury. Red Cross is working to assist the family to meet their most immediate needs for shelter, clothing and food.
The Kent Fire Department reminds that we all have an obligation to teach children fire safety. Teach them about the nature of fire, that it is FAST, HOT, DARK and can be DEADLY.
