Cedar Valley’s SOAR program is planning a Family Math Night on 6:15-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. SOAR is a program to prepare preschool children for school.
The SOAR program is collaborating with Cedar Valley’s Title I school-wide program to promote the evening of family fun.
Soar is designed to bring preschool children, age 3-4-years old, into the school to help them become familiar with the school and to better prepare them for school when they are old enough to begin. It allows the teachers to see the children interact with other children their age and determine if they may need to be screened for early intervention.
While the preschool children will be involved in age-appropriate activities, students in grades K-6 will spend time creating make-and-take-home math activities and games. Families will learn how to play the games during the evening. The materials and activities help our increasingly diverse population to become involved with the academic processes and community networks of the school.
Cedar Valley students who participate will receive a math award incentive charm to add to their monthly discipline incentive charms chain. The charms have become an important acknowledgment of the students’ success at school.
