This week is National Arson Awareness Week, focusing on reducing vehicle arson—a combustible crime.
“Many times, seemingly abandoned automobiles are attractive targets for these trouble-making activities, said State Fire Marshal Charles Duffy. “By raising awareness, we can help combat vehicle arson in our local communities.”
What can you do to prevent vehicle arson?
Park your car in a well-lit area.
Use a secure parking lot for extended periods.
Close all windows.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Always lock doors, trunk and tailgate.
Use antitheft devices.
Report abandoned cars to the police.
Do not leave valuables in plain sight.
Use a recovery system, such as a GPS or other tracking device.
