DECA Club receives check
The Rotary Club of Kent presented a $500 check to the DECA Club of Kentlake High School April 3.
Connor Heindel, Kiran Chakrabarty, Ashlyn Greget and Gabriel Waer along with advisor Joyce Greget received the check.
Compost Days celebration events
Cedar Grove is celebrating its 10th annual Compost Days.
This year’s events run through Sunday, April 22.
“Compost Days is Cedar Grove’s thank you to the residents of the Puget Sound region for so diligently recycling their yard and food scraps, making our region a national leader in composting,” said Karen Dawson, director of marketing and community relations for Cedar Grove, in a media release. “By leaving their compostable material at the curb, Puget Sound residents prevent those materials from ending up in landfills and ensure the material is instead manufactured locally into nutritious soils.”
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14 Cedar Grove will be hosting a volunteer event at Maple Valley’s Elk Run Farm, 22500 SE 275th Place. The event includes working on the farm, weeding and transplanting vegetable starts students from Tahoma High School planted earlier this year.
Seminar for retirees at local church
The Peace Lutheran Church in Covington is hosting a free community event from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19. Lunch will be provided.
The purpose of the seminar is for retirees and soon to be retirees to learn about a variety of topics including — social security, Medicare, powers of attorney, wills and trusts, home issues, long term care, retirement and other topics.

Covington councilmember and author Sean Smith is hosting an event from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Covington Library.
Smith will be there to discuss his latest novel “Need to Know.” This is the third book in his series Grayson Cole National Park Thrillers.
