All safe following Sunday home fire near Covington

Residents were having a quiet evening at home Sunday when neighbors alerted them that they needed to evacuate their home because it was on fire.

Residents were having a quiet evening at home Sunday when neighbors alerted them that they needed to evacuate their home because it was on fire.

The home was located east of Covington’s business district.

The people were able to get out of the house safely and there were no injuries.

The fire, that appears to have started in the garage area, did significant damage to the home and completely destroyed the attached garage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no dollar loss figures are currently available.

A total of eleven fire apparatus from Kent and Maple Valley responded to the fire at 6:42 and had the fire under control shortly after 7. No fire fighters were injured.

Kent Fire Department reminds you that a broken fire alarm provides no protection and you can’t afford to be without early warning to a fire. Periodic checks of detectors should be routine in your home.
