Accident on Witte Road in Maple Valley Wednesday evening blocks traffic

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday an accident occurred on Witte Road a few blocks away from Kent Kangley Road that blocked traffic on Witte.

At 7:07 p.m. Wednesday a man crashed his car and knocked down a utility pole which blocked the road to traffic in the 2200 block of Witte Road in Maple Valley.

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety as well as King County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call, according to officials with both agencies.

Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, wrote in an email that a 58-year-old man from Kent driving a 1995 Toyota Corolla crashed into a utility pole.

According to Scott Webster with Maple Valley Fire, emergency responders “came across a single vehicle accident”

“The male driver had hit and sheared off a power pole,” Webster wrote in an email. “The downed pole and transmission wires were blocking Witte Road. Firefighters stopped to triage and treat the patient.”

Webster noted an aid car transported the man to a local hospital.

Witte Road was closed for some time until it was cleared by crews from Puget Sound Energy.
