The Bear Run and Walk 5K is scheduled for June 12 at Lake Wilderness Park.

The event is the 33rd annual 5K Bear Run and Walk. This Bear Run has grown by leaps and bounds over the years, becoming the premier 5K run and walk in the area. Last year, close to 500 participants, ranging in ages from 2 to 99, completed the course around Lake Wilderness.

This event, which is run in conjunction with Maple Valley Days, will be chip-timed on a newly-certified course which starts and finishes near the beach at Lake Wilderness. The Bear Run and Walk is geared towards seasoned runners, casual walkers, families and kids. Thanks to sponsorships from community business leaders, kids 12 and under will participate for only a small registration fee.

The funds generated by this event allowed for the distribution of $7500 in college scholarships in 2016, and support the Tahoma High School cross country and track programs. For more information and to register, visit www.maplevalleybearrun.com.
