Two students from Tahoma Elementary School, Khaley Audette and McCord Woodward, made blankets for Maple Valley community heroes. They were tasked with the project from their class to create a community commitment project and this is what they choose to do.
The kids presented their finished blankets to Maple Valley Fire Chief Aaron Tyerman, Maple Valley Police Chief DJ Nesel and a local veteran, Angelo Mupeo at Fire Station 81on May 3. According to McCord’s mom, he wanted to come up with a project that would “hug” these community heroes to show them someone is there for them.
He said he “likes blankets, they kind of wrap you up in a hug.” Each blanket had the recipient’s name on it and said “In Maple Valley, no one fights alone.” Tyerman said it is one of the best gifts he has ever gotten while on duty.
