Training for foster volunteers to temporarily adopt pets from King County animal shelters is scheduled for next week at the shelter in Kent.
Sessions are planned for May 22 and June 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The shelter, whose coverage area includes Covington, Maple Valley and Black Diamond, is at 21615 64th Ave. S.
After their training, volunteers may begin to foster pets. The volunteers must be able to provide a clean and safe environment to care for the foster animals and prevent injury and the spread of disease, according to the county’s animal services officials.
Pet food, flea control and milk replacement are provided to volunteers.
The foster program is among efforts to improve the county’s handling of animals sent to the shelters.
