Those thespians at Tahoma High have talent as the school’s production of “Children of Eden” was nominated for nine awards in the 5th Avenue’s Honoring High School Musical Theater awards.

“Children of Eden” was directed by Melissa Corby, musically directed by Ken Riggs, and choreographed by Tahoma senior Hannah Fiskum.

Among the nominations for Tahoma’s spring musical was Outstanding Overall Musical Production.

Thanks to that honor, the cast of “Children of Eden” will be performing a number from their show on the evening of the awards on the Benaroya Hall stage.

In addition, Tahoma received nominations for Melissa Maricich as Outstanding Supporting Actress, for Corby in Outstanding Direction, Stephanie Fiskum for Outstanding Costume Design, Outstanding Chorus, and for Sam Marx with the assistance of Alex Marx for Outstanding Program Design.

The production also received Honorable Mention for Outstanding Photography, Outstanding Orchestra and Outstanding Hair and Make-up Design by student Josh Tavenner along with Tahoma High graduates Dmitriy Yarynych and Heather McKinlay.

Janelle Waldram also received Special Honors in Student Achievement for her work with Tahoma Junior High’s musical program.

Kentlake High received a nomination for Outstanding Lighting Design, Honorable Mention in Outstanding Scenic Design and Outstanding Costume Design for its spring musical, “Phantom of the Opera.”

Alexandra Tedeschi was nominated in Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her work as Carlotta.

Jacob Axelson as The Phantom of the Opera, Kentlake High School, received Honorable Mention in Outstanding Performance of an Actor in a Leading Role.

The 5th Avenue Awards are designed to recognize excellence in high school theater.  Every year, adjudicators travel throughout the state evaluating high school musical productions. Thousands of students state-wide compete every year.

The awards are set for June 6 at Benaroya Hall.
