Stevens Pass Mountain Resort remains open despite a road closure on US Route 2 from Stevens Pass Mountain Resort to Leavenworth. The highway remains open from the west to the resort. The east side of the pass has been closed due to trees falling across the road from heavy snowfall.
For December 24, the resort will operate as scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with at least four lifts and limited food and beverage, retail, rentals and ski and snowboard school. Snow conditions at the resort remain well above average for December with nearly 250″ of snowfall this season.
“Skiers can still get to the pass from the west side, however, the pass is not open to traffic on the east side,” said Jeff Adamson, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) North Central Region Communications Manager.
Due to the road closure, many resort employees are unable to report to work, however, there are enough employees living at the resort and on the west side of the pass to maintain operations.
According to WSDOT, it is not clear when the east side of the pass will be able to re-open. Crews will continue to assess conditions.
“This series of storms has been remarkable,” said Dan Sarles, WSDOT Regional Administrator for the North Central Region.
