More than a dozen youngsters are getting some extra time in before school starts this fall at Cedar Valley Elementary School.
The children, who will be in kindergarten, have spent two hours a day on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship’s Kindergarten Readiness Camp.
This is the camp’s first year and is part of a partnership with Cedar Valley to offer extra help to students. Kindergarten teachers from the school are volunteering their time at the camp this summer to help students they’ve identified during pre-K assessments as needing just a little extra help before school starts.
There’s an emphasis on literacy and math but it’s done in a fun and hands on way so the kids may not even realize they’re learning.
The camp began last Tuesday and runs through Aug. 20. Students head back to class in the Kent School District on Aug. 31.
