Talented 10 through 18-year-olds from Covington, Maple Valley, Kent and Auburn tickled the keys during the city of Covington’s third annual piano competition.
The musical skills of the young pianists was evident throughout the competition and a recital that followed at St. John the Baptist Church, according to Deanna Dent, a member of the city’s Arts Commission, which organized the event.
Contestants played at least one original piano piece by any classical composer. The music had to be of an intermediate level or above.
When the judging was over Nov. 1, the winners and honorably mentioned in the nine age groups included: 10: Winner – Pearl Lam. Honorable mention – Sujin Cho, Tiger Zhang; 11: Winner – Jessica Lou. Honorable mention – Rachel Weros; 12: Winner – Adriana Svitak. Honorable mention – Clarisse Dent; 13: Winner – Irene Hwang. Honorable mention – Yujin Cho, Amanda Peng; 14: Winner – Jenny Gao. Honorable mention – Anastasiya Golubovich; 15: Winner – Julie Chang. Honorable mention – Thomas Rothschilds, Hannah Dokupil, Joeann Park; 16: Winner – Michael Messer. Honorable mention – Olivia Edwards; 17: Winner – Stephen Hogg and Alexander Li (tie). Honorable mention – Emily Hsieh; 18: Winner – Jihye Shin. Honorable mention – Anna Seim.
