I believe that sodas, especially when consumed in large quantities, are indeed harmful for our kids’ health – and not just because they contain lots of empty calories from sugar. Unfortunately, it is only the issue of weight gain in connection with sodas that drives the current discussion. What bothers me as much, however, is the fact that almost all sodas are carbonated.
John Gehring, a junior at Kentlake and member of Boy Scout Troop 945 in Covington, completed the service project portion required to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. With the help of fellow scouts, family and friends, Gehring installed two large planting boxes in the outdoor wetland teaching area at Millennium Elementary in Kent Aug. 28 and 29.
Because it was Sept. 11, the Friday night show was more than a typical Rock For Reason concert. Cameron Murray, the constructor of all such events, asked the audience to join him in a moment of silence. The moment was completely respectful and extraordinarily moving. All of these people gathered together to listen to music while donating money to a great cause and honoring those that were lost. Although they may not have known each other, every single person in that room could sympathize for those who lost their lives that day.
