Artwork by children who have lived with domestic violence will be displayed at Covington City Hall this month.

The exhibit, provided by Covington Domestic Violence Task Force, YWCA and DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network), is the Covington Arts Commission’s display artist for the month of October. This is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The exhibit can be viewed Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Several drawings are from “Through Their Eyes: Domestic Violence and Its Impact on Children” a project of the YWCA. The display shows the contrasting work of art as children begin the recovery process, officials said. One group shows the dark side of abuse as they express their feelings through art therapy. A second group is drawn while children are safe and in the healing process – colorful, happy and hopeful, officials said.

The display also features a quilt made in 2007 by the women and children at the DAWN shelter.

In addition, there are four Silent Witness memorials honoring the women, men and children who were murdered by an intimate partner. The exhibit is part of a national initiative born in Minnesota.
