The following is a press release from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.

The Puget Sound region is expected to continue experiencing the warmest temperatures of the year in the next week, when highs reach into the low-90s.

While warm weather means outdoor fun, please remember the potential dangers is also brings.

Health safety:

• Stay hydrated with non-caffeinated liquids
• Wear sunscreen – especially children
• Check on the elderly and those house-bound regularly
• Close drapes and windows during the day to keep homes cooler
• Consider waiting until the evenings before going out

Consider a Cooling Center (many with free bottled water):

• King County libraries
• The Kent Commons
• Kent Senior Center
• Local malls
• Theaters

Water safety:

• Wear a Coast Guard approved and well-fitting life jacket
• Swim at locations that have lifeguards
• Supervise children at ALL TIMES
• Know that lake and river temperatures can be as low as 50 degrees
• Remember that water activities and alcohol do not mix well

Fire safety:

• Know that there is a fire-safety burn ban in King County
• Check with your local fire department before starting any outdoor fires
• Never discard cigarettes or other burning materials on the ground
• Keep landscaping near your home well-watered and away from the building
• Dispose of BBQ ashes in a tightly sealed metal container – not a paper bag
