Shakespeare is coming to Kentwood
Starting in January, Kentwood drama will present Hamlet. The performances are 7:30p.m. from Jan. 11-14 and 18-21. Tickets are $5 at Kentwood High School, 25800 164th Ave. SE in Covington.
Student volunteers replant along Cedar River
On Nov. 21 more than 40 students from the Waskowitz Environmental Leaders School in Burien, spent the day replanting one mile of the bank of Cedar River.
The students have been active volunteers as part of a curriculum that has emphasis on environmental education and team building. They coordinate with the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks under the direction of the Washington Conservation Corps.
The students helped removed Himalayan blackberry and ivy along the Cedar River. The goal of tho project is to reduce new invasive species colonization, as the new native vegetation establishes, it also helps reduce long-term maintenance efforts and improve habitat function along the river.
Food Bank in need of food
The Black Diamond Community Center is in need of items to help seniors, families and the homeless. The items they need donated includes food and household items.
The food items needed are pancake mix, syrup, jam/jelly, pasta, mac and cheese, boxed mashed potatoes, green beans, canned chili, canned stew and canned chicken.
The household items needed are toothpaste, tooth brushes, slightly used sleeping bags, towels/wash clothes, white and black socks (new/unisex) and winter boots for the whole family (new or used).

The food bank is a 501c3 non-profit organization and donation slips are available. The food bank appreciates any help that is given so they can help the community.
The very merry Christmas house of lights
The winter wonderland light show is now happening in Covington. Delightful homemade props and more than 50 thousand lights come alive when they are synchronized to classic holiday music in the light show.
The show is a free drive by show that debuted on Nov. 24. The show runs daily and from dark until 11:30 p.m. through Jan. 2 at Crest Air Park, 30211 176th Ave. SE, Covington. Follow signs off of Covington/Sawyer Rd and 179th.

Recycle electronics and metal the easy way
A free recycling event is coming to the Kentridge High School parking lot. Unwanted electronics and metals are being accepted to be recycled by One Green Plant between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 3. Monetary donations are being accepted and will benefit the Kentridge Booster Club member sports and activities.
Please do not bring televisions, wood, glass, hazardous waste, paint, tires or alkaline batteries.
