The Valley Girls and Guys is made up of the most dedicated, motivated, committed individuals you could ever meet. On Sept. 24, 86 walkers (girls and guys) set out on an amazing journey together. Prior to the three day (60 miles) walk, this team fundraised, trained and played together. The team raised over $204,000 that went directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Valley Girls and Guys quickly became the No. 1 team in the state out of over 700 teams and so far is the No. 1 team in the nation. This team has the most amazing donors, supporters, cheerleaders and we are thankful for each and every one of them.
On Friday morning, Sept. 24, the team was interviewed by King 5 News prior to setting out on our long 22.5 mile stroll for the day from 60 Acres park in Redmond to Kasch Park in Everett. Long day yes, but our motto is, “At least our blisters and aches and pains don’t need chemo.”
Day two we started at Kasch Park and made a big loop through various cities chalking up another 21.7 miles. Day three was 15.7 miles and everyone was bused to Northgate and walked into downtown Seattle and ended at Memorial Stadium by the Space Needle. This journey was an amazing experience filled with laughter, tears, anxiety, excitement and most of all unity as a team. With seven survivors on the team, we walked for our brave, courageous survivors that have fought the fight, those that we have lost along the way and those fighting the battle now.
Our team walks for all cancers, not just breast cancer and was proud to be part of the 2010 three day Seattle experience.
Valley Girls and Guys has already formed for 2011 and is 35 walkers strong. If you would like to make a difference, help find a cure and meet the most amazing caring people, we would love to have you on the team.
