Stop the talking points and misinformation | Letter to the Editor

Gary Foss of Covington joins the conversation on Rep. Mark Hargrove

To a recent letter writer criticizing Rep. Mark Hargrove:

Democrats don’t like to talk about the bad economy their policies have caused, so they try and distract us with, “Look, there’s a Republican war on women!” In fact, under the current administration, women have lost seven times as many jobs as men.

The Hobby Lobby decision wasn’t about contraception. The Hobby Lobby company provides 16 different types of free, no-copay, contraceptives to their employees through their company health care plan: condoms, diaphragms, sponges, cervical caps, birth-control pills, contraceptive patches, rings, injections, implantable rods, vasectomies, sterilization surgeries and implants.

What they object to are a couple of abortifacients. They have a right to that opinion.

As for poor women’s access, birth control pills cost as little as $4/month at Fred Meyer Pharmacy. If you can afford a Starbucks latte once a month, you can afford birth control pills.

As a small business owner, you should be more wary of government intrusion into matters of conscience. Would you walk into a Muslim halal restaurant and demand they serve you a bacon cheese burger?

By the way, I am a rocket scientist and I don’t think overpopulation is the world’s most serious problem. Rep. Hargrove is an aeronautical engineer and instructor pilot. I don’t think he does either.
