Saturday morning I visited the Farmer’s Market in Maple Valley. Just outside the market were young people manning a booth on Rock Creek Elementary property with signs to impeach President Obama. Everyone has a right to their own opinion; however, the signs showed pictures of the president with an Adolph Hitler mustache painted on his face. Now, I personally do not care if someone is a Democrat, Republican, Independent or Tea Party member, but to disgrace any president we have, had or will ever have by attributing him/her to the likeness of Adolph Hitler is disgusting and I personally find it extremely offensive.
Everyone seems to forget that one in eleven U. S. Presidents have been murdered in the line of duty and several others have had assassination attempts on their lives, including Ronald Reagan, who was very seriously wounded. These men all deserve the greatest respect, whether you voted for them or against them. They are our presidents. They have all done what they felt they were elected to do and gave it their best.
These young people have obviously been brainwashed by their parents or older individuals because they appear to be unaware of Hitler’s atrocities. However, I would think they would have had some lessons in history – or even read the book, “The Diary of Ann Frank” and/or seen the movie of the same name or “Schindler’s List” to name a few. Maybe, they belong to some cult that doesn’t believe the holocaust really happened, as does Iran’s notorious leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. At any rate, it is offensive, disrespectful, and ignorant. Adolph Hitler was one of history’s most dangerous, despicable and evil men of all time.
I did complain to a City Council member regarding this booth and was told several people had complained about it, but the city had checked with local law enforcement and was told it was “freedom of speech” and there was nothing that could be done about it. Excuse me! This was on school property. If we are not allowed to put signs on state or federal property wishing Christians a merry Christmas, Jews a happy Hanukkah or Moslems a happy Eid al-Fitr, or any other religious greeting, then why on earth are we allowing this kind of disgusting trash to be placed on school property?
Maybe someone can tell me why merry Christmas, happy Easter, happy Hanukkah, happy Eid al-Fitr are not considered freedom of speech also!
