Rep. Simpson a poster child for ‘draining the swamp’ statement | Letter

Once again we see in the paper (July 30 edition, “Simpson arraigned and pleads not guilty) state Rep. Geoff Simpson accused of behavior unbecoming of an elected official. That makes at least three that have been reported, (previous altercation and using Kent computers to post on political blogs) but like an iceberg, I’d steer clear on the hunch much more lingers beneath the surface. He’s the poster child for Nancy Pelosi’s statement about “draining the swamp.”

That aside, his latest mailer at the end of the legislative session disturbs me and exposes his political character as much as his domestic missteps. He bashed Boeing for not paying their fair share in various taxes and how they threaten to move production lines. I wonder if the thousands of Boeing employees would tell you they don’t feel they’re paying their fair share of property taxes, fuel, sales, license and the list goes on taxes.

And how much public support is Boeing pouring into our communities?

Geoff gets his paychecks from two public sources so obviously (he) wouldn’t have a perspective of private sector earnings. He views Boeing much like a bear views a bees nest. He neglects the flowers all around that the bees have everything to do with their growth. A bear raids the hive for the honey. But this example as well as real life, we have a bee shortage and when the hives are raided too much, they move elsewhere.

Perhaps Mark Hargrove would act as an apiarist to not just Boeing, but the many bees that this state needs to bloom.
