There has been speculation as to whether or not I am running for re-election as fire commissioner. I am running.
Allow me to set the records straight. I did resign my position in August as there was no other option. My counterparts on the Board of Fire Commissioners voted against the renewal of Chief Tim Lemon’s contract. This was not a decision I supported nor did I feel it was in the best interests of the citizens or Maple Valley Fire & Life Safety. I took a stand and decided to make a statement that would not only spark interest from the community, but allow what was really going on to surface.
I have never forgotten who I represent, and my family is my daily reminder. I am pro-citizen and I am for the people. My decisions are based on one question. How does this help or hurt the citizens of Maple Valley?
The future of this Fire District is what matters. The issues that need to be addressed are budget constraints (based on the current economy) and funding possibilities without raising taxes. It is important to avoid layoffs and continuing to provide an acceptable level of service to you and your families. With the collective efforts of the other commissioners, the administration and the staff we will continue to provide excellent service for our citizens.
I have been part of the Maple Valley Fire & Life Safety family for more than 25 years. The last 11 years and eight months, as your fire commissioner. With your support, I will continue to serve this community efficiently and with your best interests in mind.
