Deceptive funding of attack ads should cause voters to think | Letter

As sure as rain comes in October we all begin to receive the political hit ads in the mail in the last days of the election telling us what despicable characters the Republicans are. Most of it is untrue but designed to put an element of doubt in the minds of the voters who they think are stupid enough to believe the ads.

The ads come from political action committees (PACs) none of us have ever heard of such as Independence PAC, Families PAC and Together PAC. The state campaign advertising law requires such entities to reveal the top five contributors. In each of these cases the top, and only contributor it turns out, is another PAC such as Succeed PAC, Unity PAC, and Basic PAC. This technique helps them hide the real contributors.

When one follows the trail of these different PACs they usually lead to yet another layer of PACs and eventually all lead to unions and special interest groups such as NARAL, Planned Parenthood and the Roosevelt Fund which itself is an arm of the Democratic Legislative Committee. Most of the PACs are operated by Moxie Media, a Democratic political campaign consulting firm in Seattle.

This sort of deceptive funding shell game and the false negative attack ads should cause every voter to vote for the candidates who are the targets of the ads. In the most recent cases that would be Mark Hargrove and Joe Fain. For some reason they have not attacked Rodrigo Yanez – yet.
