Puget Sound Energy’s comprehensive fuel conversion program makes it easier for customers to switch from electric to natural gas water heating. Eligible PSE customers who convert from electric to natural gas water heating can receive a $950 incentive and may typically save $200 to $400 annually after making the switch.

“When customers switch from electric to natural gas water heating they are not only saving electricity but also typically see their energy bill come down,” said Cal Shirley, vice president of Customer Solutions at PSE. “We are dedicated to making this transition as easy as possible for our customers. It’s a win-win for our customers and the environment.”

Seattle-based Fast Water Heater Company, a member of PSE’s Contractor Alliance Network, is working directly with PSE to help customers convert from electric to natural gas water heating.

“Despite the potential savings that can result from making this transition, homeowners are often reluctant to switch their water heating energy source because it can sometimes leave them without hot water for several days,” said Jason Hanleybrown, CEO of Fast Water Heater Company.

Fast can reinstate hot water service on the same day as the service call, in most cases.

“Our goal is to make the electric to natural gas conversion easy and affordable,” said Hanleybrown. “Our dedicated hotline 1-866-467-6447 takes the guesswork out of making the switch for all eligible PSE customers.”

Fast can also provide eligible PSE customers with an instant rebate for making the switch, another customer solution focused on expediting the process.

PSE has partnered with Fast to provide a free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb and up to two free high-efficiency showerheads to eligible PSE households when Fast replaces their water heater, regardless of whether they are eligible to participate in PSE’s fuel conversion program.

“Each high efficiency showerhead saves customers up to $50 per year in water and heating costs, and CFL bulbs use nearly 80 percent less energy than conventional incandescent bulbs,” said Shirley. “Our goal is help all of our customers become savvy energy consumers so they are efficiently using energy to meet their needs.”
