Seattle-based publishers of the Northwest’s premier golf magazine, Cascade Golfer, announced details of a six-event series of golf tournaments for amateur golfers in 2010 that will feature more than $100,000 in prizes, including rounds of golf at some of the West Coast’s premier venues, travel packages to Bandon Dunes, Hawaii, Palm Springs and more, a trip to the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, and tickets to the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2010 U.S. Senior Open, and more.

The series, called the Cascade Golfer Cup, will be comprised of six tournaments held at some of the Northwest’s top public golf courses, including Chambers Bay, Druids Glen, McCormick Woods, Gold Mountain and Kayak Point.

Each tournament will feature 72 two-person teams competing in a variety of formats, including Stroke Play Cumulative Score, Best Ball and Scramble. Each of the six events will feature a grand prize, plus additional prizes awarded to the top-20 teams and numerous tee prizes, all handed out at an exclusive post-tournament awards party.

Prizes for the individual events will include a custom set of clubs at the Callaway Golfer Performance Center in Southern California, a trip to the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach stay-and-play packages to Bandon Dunes, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Mesquite, Nev.; Central Oregon, Lake Tahoe and more; tickets to USGA events including the U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay and the 2010 U.S. Senior Open at Sahalee; plus golf clubs and accessories, free lesson packages and rounds of golf at Pumpkin Ridge, Bear Mountain Ranch, Wine Valley, Willows Run, Druids Glen, Washington National, Trophy Lake, McCormick Woods, Mount Si and more.

In addition to competing for prizes, teams participating at each of the six Cascade Golfer Cup tournaments will accrue points towards the overall grand prize, the 2011 Summer Golf Package, featuring twosomes at 25-30 different Puget Sound courses, golf products, and stay-and-play packages to area resort destinations like Central Oregon and Lake Tahoe, Nev. — in all, a package valued at over $5,000.

Chambers Bay — site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open — will host the first Cascade Golfer Cup, The Michelob Ultra Open, May 1, where 72, two-person teams will vie for a trip to the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. Events will follow throughout the spring and summer on May 22 Cascade Golfer Challenge at Druids Glen, June 12 Monster Scramble at McCormick Woods, July 24 Callaway Golf Classic at Gold Mountain and Aug. 14 Diablogolf.com, Best Ball at Kayak Point culminating with the Cascade Golfer Cup championship at Druids Glen on Sept. 11.

All six tournaments will be open to any golfer with an established handicap and will be scored in net formats, allowing players of all ages and abilities to compete on a level playing field (prizes will also be awarded for low gross scores). In this way, the events will be similar to the Muckleshoot Masters and Cascade Golfer Challenge tournaments held in 2009 at Druids Glen, where two-man teams competed for a number of incredible prizes, including two trips for two to the 2010 Masters at Augusta National, and stay-and-play packages to Bandon Dunes, Hawaii and more.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to bring an event of this caliber to the Northwest,” Simon Dubiel said, Cascade Golfer tournament coordinator. “The overwhelming positive response we received to the two tournaments we hosted in 2009 told us that Northwest golfers have been eager for the chance to experience the thrill of tournament golf in a format that allows players of all abilities to compete for the grand prize, and isn’t just limited to the most skilled players.”
