Covington hosts business event

The city of Covington’s “Getting To Know You” open house for businesses is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. next Tuesday at City Hall.

Merchants can meet city officials and fellow business people.

Tax workshop planned Oct. 15

The south King County office of the state Department of Revenue will host a free workshop Oct. 15 business tax recordkeeping.

From 1 to 4 p.m. at Fairwood Library (17009 140th SE.), small-business owners can learn about Washington’s excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, and sales tax collections.

Space for the workshop is limited, so department officials suggest registering at www.dor.wa.gov or (253) 437-3440.

Bartell recycling fluorescent bulbs via stores

Bartell Drugs is offering free recycling of CFL (compact fluorescent) light bulbs at all 56 of its locations, including the store in Maple Valley.

The recycling program is a joint project with Total Reclaim, a Seattle-based recycling firm. Information is at www.takeitbacknetwork.org
