Tahoma students participate at Regional High School Solo and Ensemble Contest

Tahoma Band students participated in the Regional High School Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Kent Meridian High School Saturday, Jan. 28.

Tahoma Band students participated in the Regional High School Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Kent Meridian High School Saturday, Jan. 28.

The competition was sponsored by the Washington Music Educators’ Association and encompasses the Green River District, which includes students from Kent, Covington, Enumclaw, and Auburn.

Tahoma had over 40 students participate.

All of the students who participated earned an “Excellent” or “Superior” rating from the judges. Of the 40 students, there were four regional winners one first alternate and a second alternate.

The winners will move on to the state competition on April 28 which is held at Central Washington University.  The Tahoma Band will hold a concert featuring all of these students and music that the band will be playing in upcoming band competitions on Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Tahoma High School. Admission is free.

The Tahoma winners are as follows:  Allison Haun, Regional Winner on Alto Saxophone; Stephen Shin, Regional Winner on Euphonium; Tyler Campbell, Regional Winner on Timpani; Kurt Binder, 1st alternate on Rudimental Snare Drum; and Austin Walton, 2nd Alternate on Rudimental Snare Drum.

Jordan Hays, who composed his own drum solo, is the regional winner on Multiple Percussion (drum set). He is in process of having his drum solo published based on the recommendation of the judges.
