Tahoma Middle School’s SAIL (Successful Academic Independent Learning) program was the recipient of a retired county Metro Vanpool Van on March 30.

“I’m pleased that this retired Metro Van will have a second career serving the students at Tahoma Middle School,” Reagan Dunn, King County Council Vice Chair, said in a press release. “It’s really a win win for everyone involved and I am glad that I was able to be a part of it.”

Annette Whittlesey, director of Special Services at the Tahoma School District said, the SAIL program helps high need students gain community experience.

The van will help transport the students to grocery stores so they can practice shopping.

There are roughly 16 students currently in SAIL, Whittlesey said.

“The students and folks in the program are very excited,” Whittlesey said. “We are very appreciative.”
