The 2009 Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety annual awards banquet was Saturday, March 27 at Lake Wilderness Golf Course.
The following is a list of award presented at the banquet:
Chief’s Company Award
Selected by the chief officers of the Fire District 43 for recognition of those who demonstrated exceptional performance on emergency scenes. The question is always presented to the chiefs, “who would you like to show up if you had to call 911.”
The awards went to Lt. Jeff Adams, firefighters Abel Craft, Mike Seery and Michael Johnson.
Commissioners’ Award
Firefighter and union president Mike Ager received the Commissioners’ Award for his contributions in assisting to build the improved alliance between the union and administration.
Awards were presented for incidents during 2009 year and for historical recognition.
Drew Erickson received a Letter of Commendation for an off-duty cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Greg Lewis, Pete Askevold, and Jon Graziani (2009) received a Valorous Unit Citation for rescuing two people out of a partially submerged vehicle during a flooding of the Cedar River.
Bert Warm and Greg Gerarden (2007) received a meritorious unit citation for a rescue at a residential house fire near Lake Retreat. Warm also received the Medal of Commendation for his role in the rescue
Greg Lewis and Greg Gerarden (1997) both received Medals of Merit for performing a rescue at a double wide trailer fire in River Bend mobile home park
David O’Brien, Scott Rogers, and Don Bushnell (1991) received a Valorous Unit Citation for a rescue effort at a residential house fire on the Dorre Don Way. O’Brien also received the Medal of Valor.
