Around 9:30 a.m. this morning at Kentwood High School the King County Sheriff’s Office received word that a student had reportedly seen another with a gun in a bathroom.
School officials were immediately notified and the school went into lockdown.
Deputies arrived and with the school’s help were able to find the student with the gun while he was in class.
The student was escorted from the classroom and he was found in possession of a BB gun.
He is 17 years old and was released to his parents.
The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office who will make a charging decision.
Sergeant Cindi West, Media Relations for the Sheriff’s Office, said the student who reported the gun did exactly what the office stresses, “see something, say something.”
“Regardless of the reason the kid had for bringing the gun to school, there is NO VALID reason for a student to bring a weapon on campus,” West wrote in an email this morning following the incident.
