Tahoma capped off its best fastpitch season under coach Tom Milligan by winning four of its last six games including hanging 30 runs in the final two games.
Last Friday the Bears beat Federal Way 20-8 then wrapped up the South Puget Sound League 4A North season with a 10-0 win over Kent-Meridian on Tuesday.
Sherry Linett went 2-2 with a pair of singles as did Lisa Maulden, who picked up 2 RBIs, as well.
Hailey Granlund went 1-2 with a run scored and 2 RBIs while Jordan Walley was 2-3 at the plate and also collected a pair of RBIs.
Alyse Henkel and Hayley Beckstrom both picked up stolen bases.
Senior Kim Reese-White pitched a five-inning no-hitter, which Milligan said was a first in his five years at Tahoma, adding another highlight to the final home game.
It’s been an up and down season for Reese-White and fellow senior Granlund who have led a young Bears team to a second straight SPSL playoff berth.
Granlund said it has been a great final season of high school ball for her despite some “obstacles we had to work out.”
“We have a fun team and I think the whole team is really talented,” Reese-White said. “We just need to make sure we hit consistently and that we work together as a team.”
Though the team is young both seniors are looking for to making some waves in the playoffs.
“We need to focus less on statistics as individuals and more on winning as a team,” Granlund said. “We have to play as a team and have fun.”
Reese-White said she would love to get another shot at any of the teams they faced during the regular season.
Tahoma is heading into the SPSL playoffs as the no. 5 seed from their division and Milligan said they will face the no. 2 team from the SPSL South. He wasn’t sure which team they might draw on Tuesday but it was possible they could play Puyallup or Rogers.
The Bears finished the season 8-8 and 10-10 overall.
