Beginning Tuesday morning, May 18, contractors closed all eastbound lanes of 272nd Street or Kent Kangley Road just past Wax Road to where it the road becomes one lane. The closure could last up to one month.

Once the construction is completed on the eastbound lanes, the crews will begin work on the westbound lanes.

Drivers traveling eastbound on 272nd will be merged into one lane on the westbound side of the road. Westbound drivers will maintain one lane through the intersection of Wax Road. The city of Covington anticipates traffic delays and encourages drivers to utilize alternate routes during this time, such as utilizing Covington Way or state Route 18 to get to and from Maple Valley.

Although sure to be a nuisance, the lane closures will lead to better traffic flow once the capital improvement project 1039 is complete. The project, spanning 272nd from Wax Road to Jenkins Creek, will widen the roadway, allow area for U-turns and improve signalization.

CIP 1039 is being funded from grant monies that cover almost all costs and is expected to be complete by the end of summer.
