It must be a sign of the times.

Bill Allison, candidate for Maple Valley City Council Position No. 2, learned Saturday morning 23 of his political signs were taken and thrown in a tree at 263rd street and 236th Avenue.

Allison said the signs were taken from Witte Road and Maple Valley-Black Diamond Highway.

The candidate filed a police report with the Maple Valley Police Department.

“They said they thought I was being targeted because of the number of missing signs,” Allison said. “But unless they catch someone there is nothing they can do.”

Allison said he spent Saturday and Sunday replacing signs.

Deputy Mayor Glenn Smith filed a police report Sunday regarding missing signs. Smith, the incumbent, is also running for City Council Position No. 2.

According to the police report a friend of Smith’s saw a man and a blond woman between the ages of 18 and 22 years old removing political signs from Witte Road Southeast.

The report stated the pair were putting signs into a green Volkswagen and black truck. According to the report Smith told officers he thought about 20 signs were taken.
