The West Central District 4A track and field meet was packed with competitive highlight on the final day of action today, May 22, at Mount Tahoma High.
Tahoma High athletes made a strong showing on both the girls and boys side. The girls team won the district meet with 77 points. The Kentwood girls finished fourth with 54.5 and Kentlake 15th with 20 points.
The Tahoma boys came in fifth with 38, Kentwood was 16th at 20 and Kentlake 21st at 13.
Derek Eager completed the hat trick by winning the javelin today and sweeping the throwing events.
He won the javelin with a his first throw in the second flight of the preliminaries reaching 211 feet, 4 inches, smashing the previous district mark of 203.6.
Just prior to Eager’s throw, Quinn Hale from Bellarmine pegged 204-5, breaking the district record first. But Hale was only able to enjoy his record setting status for a few minutes.
Eager came up next and launched his javelin for the district gold.
Friday Eager won the shot put with a district record 58-06.25, which was his personal best by 2 feet.
He also won the discus Friday reaching 184-06.
Eager said he was, “happy with all my throws. I hope they all go up next weekend (at state).”
The Tahoma senior’s goal is to sweep state. He swept the throwing event at the South Puget Sound League meet May 12 and 14 at French Field.
Tahoma’s Bianca Walton repeated her SPSL meet performance by winning the long jump and triple jump.
She took the top spot in the long jump with 17-07.75 and the triple jump with 38-08.5.
Kentwood sprinter Holly DeHart won two events. She took the 100-meters dash in 12.50 seconds and the 200 in 24.85.
Kentlake’s Madelayne Varela won the 400 in 57.03.
The Tahoma girls won two relays. The team of Kassie Jensen, Cassidy Richmond, Paige Hammock and Mande McKinney won the 400 relay in 48.96 and the team won the 800 in 1:42.77.
