A man was run over by a front end loader at a gravel mine near Maple Valley Monday morning.

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety personnel were called to the scene at 10:41 a.m., according to Deputy Chief Matt Cowan, in the 22500 block of Southeast Lake Francis Road.

“We got toned out for an industrial accident,” Cowan said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. “A gentleman had been run over by a front end loader at a gravel pit. He sustained significant injuries to his legs, but not life threatening injuries.”

Cowan said a department aid car responded, stabilized the man, then medics arrived and “once they stabilized him they transported him by ground” to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Information on the man’s status was not immediately available but more details will be posted when they become available.

A front end loader is a piece of heavy machinery often used in construction and used generally to load material such as gravel, logs, dirt, debris, among other things into or onto another type of machinery such as a dump truck or feed hopper.
