Tahoma ran its win streak to six with a 4-3 victory at home over Auburn.

It was a back and forth battle, with Auburn jumping out early with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Tahoma answered with three runs in the bottom of the second.

The Trojans battled back in the top of the fifth as they put two runs back on the board.

But, the difference for the Bears ended up being a solo shot that towered high over the center field fence for sophomore Jordan Walley, which made the score 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

Walley’s mother, Kim, played softball at Tahoma and said in an e-mail her daughter was following in her footsteps.

“It was 27 years ago and I was a senior at Tahoma when the fence was put up on the Dick Sims softball field,” Kim Walley said. “I was the first player to hit over the fence that year in 1983, coached by Dick (Ross) Sims. It was years, years later until anyone else hit over the fence. It is with great family pride that my sophomore daughter followed in mom’s footsteps this afternoon. That has been a goal of Jordan’s since she started playing fastpitch when she was 8 years old. Now she wants to surpass my one hit over the fence and I believe with her just being a sophomore we will see that.”

Walley also picked up an RBI earlier in the game when she drove in Lisa Maulden who had smacked a double to the outfield fence.

That offensive output was coupled by a strong defensive effort by the Bears as well as another complete game victory for junior Sammii Jimenez, who tallied nine strikeouts.

Tahoma travels to Federal Way on Tuesday.
