The sale and use of fireworks will continue to be allowed in the city of Maple Valley for at least another year.
The City Council voted 3-3 Monday night (Councilmember Layne Barnes was absent) on a motion to ban the use and sale of fireworks within the city. Needing a majority vote on the issue, the motion failed.
Setting off fireworks is already banned in the city, like most of the county, with the exception of two days, July 4 (9 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and Dec. 31 (6 p.m. to 1 a.m., Jan. 1).
More information on this proposed ordinance amendment and the council’s plan will be in the July 3 issue of The Reporter.
