• Classes in the 2008-09 school year will begin Sept. 2 for Rainier Christian Schools, which has campuses in the Maple Valley, Covington, Renton and Auburn areas. The private system was founded in 1994, and in recent years it has averaged a total enrollment of about 915 students, including about 160 in high school.
• Green River Community College will start its fall quarter Sept. 22. The two-year college, which received the state’s approval to begin forming in 1963 and held its first classes in 1964, has an annual enrollment of about 16,000 students (full-time and part-time combined). In addition to its main campus in Auburn, the college has branch campuses in Enumclaw and Kent.
