The Day of Peace will be celebrated at St. George Episcopal Church, located at 24219 Witte Road SE on Saturday Sept. 21 at the labyrinth behind the church.
The all-day event begins at 10 a.m.

An artist forum will review artwork at 5 p.m. with an auction to follow at 6 p.m. Artists will be asked to offer their works to the cause with proceeds going to the Maple Valley Food Bank. The top four artists will be given a US “Peace” Silver Dollar.
The Day of Peace will be highlighted at 7 p.m. with a candlelight singing celebration ending at 8 p.m.
The first 100 persons attending will receive a Peace Dove lapel pin. Persons attending will be asked to sign a petition requesting the US Treasurer to reissue a duplicate of the US Silver Dollar enhancing the word “PEACE” that was created in 1921 and designed by Anthony D. Francisci. Over a billion of these coins were minted and distributed between 1921 and1935.
In 1981 the United Nations announced by proclamation that all nations should honor the Day of Peace here-after on September 21.
