Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety as well as Mountain View Fire and Rescue firefighters were called in support along with a King County medical aid car and a rehab unit from the SeaTac Fire Department.

“When we got there the home was fully involved,” Higgins said. “There was black smoke and flames were coming out of the bedroom window.”

The man was found dead in the bedroom of the single story home and he is reported to have been living alone.

According to the fire chief the neighbors called 911.

Higgins said because of the remote location water had to be shuttled to the fire with tender trucks because there were no fire hydrants.

“We were never short of water, but it took a lot of personnel,” Higgins said.

The assistant chief said the fire was out by about 11:30 p.m. and the firefighters worked until about 5 a.m. once the fire was extinguished.

A King County fire investigator will determine the cause of the fire. A report will be released following a medical examiner report on the cause of death.

King County Fire District 47 is an all volunteer department covering about 26 square miles in rural southeast King County including Selleck and Palmer.

Maple Valley and Mountain View supplied firefighters, equipment and tender trucks.
